• Pitt currently holds the major intellectual property for the future generations of RFID and related devices such as sensors. 

• Since 2004, four companies have formed as a direct result of Pitt’s RFID intellectual property holdings and research, including E-SOC in San Francisco, Calif.; FireFly Power Technologies LLC in Pittsburgh; and Supply Systems Inc. in New Stanton, Pa.

• Pitt was responsible for establishing the basis of the 915 MHz standard for the U.S. Department of Defense.

• Marlin Mickle, Nickolas A. DeCecco Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Pitt’s leading RFID researcher, is the founding editor of the International Journal of Radio Frequency Identification Technology and Applications—the first academic RFID journal in the world.

• Pitt’s RFID center has received publicity in nearly every state in the United States and numerous foreign countries.
